Land Rover has been deep in redefining its crossover SUV lineup
for the 2018 model year. Not only we can enjoy in the
all-new Land Rover Discovery but English carmaker also added
the sixth model to its already impressive range, the Range
Rover Velar. However, while we know everything about these
models, the English brand is still tightlipped about the
upcoming 2018 Land Rover Discovery Sport. This compact luxury
SUV is the relatively new model with its introduction in 2016
but we hope that Land Rover has also the plans for this unique
vehicle. With the segment-unique third row seating, strong
off-road character, stylish look and luxury features this model
indeed has a lot to offer but with the performance version it
will be even better. So, what can be new on this model?
Based on unconfirmed industry speculations, the new Land Rover
Sport could raise the ante with the new performance version,
some styling changes and updated tech and safety features. The
diesel engine is also the possibility.
2018 Land Rover Discovery Sport: Design
There has already passed some time when the Discovery Sport was
spotted while testing with the camo on the front and rear end.
Based on what the camo was hiding we assumed that this model
will sport a new front bumper with widened air intakes and some
rear side tweaks. With that in the mind, some sources
suggesting that a sportier and more potent version is underway
for the new 2018 Land Rover Discovery Sport. Changes should
also be on the other versions in the form changed graphic in
the front and rear lighting clusters and some grille and
bumpers tweaks. On the other hand, we don’t know would Land
Rover go with deeper structural changes like in the all-new
Land Rover Discovery.
What about interior and features?
As for the interior, nothing hasn’t also been said from the
company. However, considering that this model added a new
interface, additional interior and exterior package and other
details for the 2017 version, we don’t expect big changes.
So, expect the new model with the base 18-inch wheels, Terrain
Response System, partial leather padding, dual-zone climate
control, an 8-screen touchscreen interface, power front seats,
navigation option, etc.
Upper trims will upgrade with the full leather upholstery,
memory setting, premium sound system, standard navigation, etc.
The further features upgrade will be available through an array
of optional packages. Available will be 19- and 20-inch wheels,
In Control Touch Pro interface with a 10-inch screen, an
adaptive magnetic underpinning, onboard WiFi, etc. The model
will, of course, offer the full suite of advanced driver aids.
It will rely on the adaptive cruise control, surround vision,
forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking,
blind-spot system, rear cross-traffic alert, etc.
2018 Land Rover Discovery Sport: Powertrains
The new 2018 Land Rover Discovery Sport could promote some
changes in its engine department. The current Discovery Sport
exploits a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine. It can
deliver 240 hp and torque of 250 pound-feet. However, the new
version could switch to the Ingenium-marked turbo four engine.
In the new Velar model, that family 2.0-liter turbo engine
produces 247 hp. This engine might find the way under the hood
of the new Discovery Sport.
However, mentioned performance-oriented version may be fitted
with the more potent version of this engine. We should expect
the power output of around 300 hp in this version. The
Discovery Sport could also gain a turbo-diesel engine which
could make around 180 hp.
The model will also come with the automatic transmission and
all-wheel drive as standard features. The model will also
provide hill descent control, Terrain Response System and All
Terrain Progress Control system.
2018 Land Rover Discovery Sport: Arrival, Price
The new 2018 Land Rover Discovery Sport is expected to debut
late this year. This compact SUV should cost from around $38,
000. Closer to its arrival we will have more reliable
