Aston Martin is yet another brand to enter the lucrative SUV
market. This brand faced with seven bankrupts during its
history and with the plan to expand its offer with the premium
SUV this brand will try to attract a broader audience and
become more mainstream carmaker. The British premium and sports
carmaker will launch its SUV model previewed by the 2015 DBX
concept in late 2019. The model will go on the market as
the 2020 Aston Martin DBX and will face with the likes of
Lamborghini Urus, Bentley Bentayga, top-spec Porsche Cayenne
and Range Rover but also Rolls Royce Cullinan.
2020 Aston Martin DBX: Platform
The 2020 Aston Martin DBX will come based on the reworked
version of the architecture that underpins the DB11 coupe. The
structure of this platform will consist largely of the aluminum
and some parts will be borrowed from Mercedes. Actually, in an
initial phase, the brand considered to use Mercedes’ platform
but the final decision is to use its modified architecture
although will borrow some sub-components and V-8 engines from
Design wise, the DBX SUV is said to share much of the DNA with
concept model. However, the production version will take
four-door form instead of concept’s two-door design. The
production design will also feature less coupe-like roofline
than on the concept version in order to improve interior
comfort. The teaser image Aston released reveals longer and
flatter roof than the concept. The model will boast highly
stylized exterior which will surely be the head-turner.
When comes to the cabin design, Aston promises a new approach
but the focus will be on the practicality. The cabin will also
be highly stylized and luxurious but flexible as well.
Aston also promises non-traditional technologies in its new
SUV. Reports suggesting the model will use the cameras in place
of the side mirrors like the concept car and the picture will
be projected on the screens inside. Aston will also
install the newest safety upgrades but more details will be
known close to model’s arrival.
2020 Aston Martin DBX: Powertrains
The DBX Concept was presented as the all-electric vehicle but
the 2020 Aston Martin DBX will arrive powered with gasoline
engine while the electrified powertrains will be introduced
later in model’s life cycle.
Initially, the DBX will get an AMG-sourced twin-turbo 4.0-liter
V-8 engine capable of delivering 503 hp and torque of 498
lb-ft. The range-topping version should have a 5.2-liter V-12
under the hood. The engine will be retuned version of the unit
used in the DB11 where produces 600 hp and torque of 516 lb-ft.
As the solution for the hybrid powertrain, Aston could use the
high-performance setup from Mercedes AMG GT Concept. The system
combines a 4.0-liter V-8 twin-turbo engine and an electric
motor for the total output of 800 hp.
On the other hand, Aston promises the ride and handling
characteristics similar like on the Porsche Macan.
